There are three things to do today:

  • Fix the login
  • Ship the DMG
  • Email Janice

It never adds words you didn’t say. When it isn’t sure, it types exactly what you said.

Made for how people actually talk.

The pill's dots turn teal when a word is learned

Fix a word once and it stays fixed.

Correct “Janish” to “Janice” right after it lands, and from then on it types Janice.

Soniox v5

Recommended

Our recommended choice for live dictation in English, Chinese and mixed languages. Words appear as you speak, with corrections along the way. Bring your own Soniox key, or let Pro cover it.

Small, quiet, up to date.

A menu-bar app that stays out of your way. Hold fn to dictate, or tap it once to go hands-free. Updates install with one click.

Two ways to run it.

The app is the same either way. The difference is whose API keys it dictates on.

What Pro includes

Pay with a card here, or in the iPhone app through the App Store. Cancel any time.

Up and running in three steps.

Download, pick how you want to pay for the models, hold fn.

  1. Open the app.

The first time, macOS says it can’t verify the app. That’s because it isn’t registered with Apple, not a virus warning. You clear it once.

    How to clear it

Press Done. Open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway. Confirm, then click Open Anyway once more when the app reopens.

  2. Add a key, or sign in with Pro.

Free: for Soniox v5, get a key at console.soniox.com, choose Soniox v5 in Settings and press Verify. Other models use their provider’s key; OpenRouter models use openrouter.ai/keys.

Pro: sign in under Account and the key field is replaced by “Included with Pro”.

  3. Hold fn and talk.

Allow the permissions macOS asks for, so the app can hear you and type for you. If fn opens the emoji picker instead, set “Press 🌐 key to” to “Do Nothing” in System Settings › Keyboard.

Your words stay yours.

Your voice goes to the transcription service you picked and nowhere else; on Pro it passes through our server in memory on the way. The app keeps no recording.

Your transcripts and corrections stay on your Mac. If you sign in, Cloud Sync keeps an encrypted copy of your API keys, settings and dictionary, so your Mac and iPhone match.

No ads, no tracking. You can delete your account and everything synced to it at any time.
